Alvarez, Matt

In each of us lies our best and healthiest selves. Fitness has the power to bring change to every aspect of one’s life. With the rise of depression, obesity, and other related issues, it has become my life journey to bring what I’ve learned into the lives of others. My goal as a trainer is to bring the most up to date and effective training protocols to combat such issues. To give individuals tools they’ll be able to use for the rest of their lives. The approach in which I take with my clients will increase their movement capabilities through scientifically proven methods while also ensuring that their health and fitness goals remain priority. It is my belief, as well as many others in the field, that basic human movements are the guide to pain-free, healthy living while at the same time maximizing performance and individual goals.

My experience as an athlete has brought many lessons, and in its track, complications. Having been through everything from injuries to career ending disappointments, I was able to learn and gain discipline into my current life and athletic endeavors. I believe every individual deserves the “best-of-the-best” to reach their ultimate performance and quality of life. As I continue my own personal journey I hope to inspire anyone to be the best they can be, even if they have trouble seeing their own potential as I have. This is why I choose to be a coach. As Tony Robbins wrote, “To Awaken the Giant Within.”

Baker, John

Most people are clueless about training, I was too. Eventually I got sick of following advice from magazines with 5 hour long workouts and I started to seek the truth. This has led me to my career choice, this search for the correct way to train. I have learned a lot on this journey and a passion of mine is sharing what I have learned with others, people who were like me, who wanted to become better versions of themselves yet had no idea where to start. I have done the research so you don’t have to. Whatever your goal I can help you attain it.

“Success is a lifetime pursuit,” is an idea that has carried me through many of my business, fitness, and academic ventures.  I am a bodybuilder who has placed 1st and 2nd in all four shows that I have competed in.  I have been pursuing my WNBF bodybuilding pro-card for the past four years.  Through my almost eight years of weight training, I have attained an incredible foundation of knowledge and experience through studies, articles, programming techniques, and YouTube videos.  I have had the pleasure of working with many coaches, friends, and athletes.  I’ve helped many of my close friends begin their journey in the gym and I aspire to do the same for you.  I will provide the best guidance that I can which involves writing detailed plans that will blueprint how to achieve the results you want.  Over the past years I have been compiling all the best information about training, weight loss, dieting, and muscle building.  My hope is to pass this same desire, motivation, and success onto you.

“Action is the foundational key to all success.”

Achieving your goals, no matter what they may be, all start with taking that first step. Whether you are new to fitness and exercise or have been going to the gym for years and need help reaching new goals, taking that first step toward achieving those can be one of the hardest parts. Starting something new can always be scary and it can be difficult to figure out where to start. This is where I come in by working with you to determine what would be best to help you reach your goals and become successful.

After battling through my own injuries that forced me to quit sports I loved, I found a new love and dedication for the gym. I understand how hard it can be to start on your own and feel overwhelmed, but we will work together to make sure you are enjoying your time working out while also doing what it takes to get you to where you want to be. No matter your goal, I will do my absolute best to ensure that you are successful and can continue this path for the rest of your life.

Christoff, Ashley

I consider myself to be a holistic personal trainer. Meaning, that I believe exercise is just as much mental as it is physical. The mind can be an incredibly powerful tool, but it can also pose as a hurdle that you must overcome. As your personal trainer, I can help you chip away at your personal mental road blocks, and break though other barriers to achieve your goals.

In the past I have personally struggled with exercise and how to correctly utilize the gym. It can be a very daunting place, where everyone seems to have a firm grasp on what they are doing. However, I believe that from the lessons I have learned on my own fitness journey that I can help you avoid similar pitfalls, and in turn achieve the results you want more efficiently.

Finally, I believe that exercise should be enjoyable. It is something that is often times looked at as a chore. Together though, we can ignite your passion for fitness, learn how to make the gym an enjoyable place, and ultimately discover a healthier and happier you.

Crisostomo, Tyler

The core of my training philosophy is to move with a purpose. There is a stigma in the gym setting that a complicated and debilitating workout is best. I believe that this mentality is not only bad for the individual as it increases the risk for injury, but for the health and fitness world as well as it intimidates beginners and discourages those who aren’t already elite performers. I also believe in a holistic lifestyle approach that ties together nutrition, sleep, and stress management, with the enjoyable challenging workouts that we will be doing together.

Your goals are the easy part. Whether you want to lose body fat, build muscle, or perform better is just a matter of math. The real work is in helping you create a healthy relationship with exercise and nutrition so you can maintain that progress for the rest of your life. My goal as your personal trainer is not only to help you become the best version of yourself, but to help you develop the skills and tools necessary so that you no longer need a personal trainer.

Wanting to change your lifestyle and reach a fitness goal can be a bit overwhelming. You might be asking yourself “How do I hold myself accountable?”...“How do I know what’s going to work and what isn’t?”....“Where do I even begin?” That’s where I come in. I work with you one on one to establish what your goals are, design a program that will guide you down that path, and then hold you accountable so you can succeed. My purpose is to help you discover your potential, and steer you down the road to fitness success.

I believe that no matter what your goals are, I can get you there. Dedication, Discipline, and Desire… That’s all I ask of you. With my background in athletics and active engagement in a variety of fitness avenues, I am confident in my understanding of setting a goal and doing everything possible to reach it. Together we will make your goals a reality.

Dougherty, Michael

Through my time in football, wrestling, and powerlifting it wasn’t the actual events I played that made me fall in love with fitness, but the grind and constant effort of working out and practicing each day that kept me focused. I loved seeing the constant change to my body and the way I feel over the constancy of working out, and lifting daily. I especially saw this in powerlifting, as each workout wasn’t about pushing yourself the absolute limit every session, but about a calculated approach to strengthening your body, and performing perfectly each time. “Anyone can make you tired, but it takes patience and control make you stronger”. My goal is to help those around me become stronger, and better themselves, because strength is never a weakness.

“There’s a sucker in every room. If you look around the room and can’t decide who it is; It’s you.” – Mark Cuban

Everything in life takes effort. If you aren’t willing to put the work in you will probably end up as “the sucker in the room.”

Physical fitness is one of the many things in life that will take your full effort and attention if you wish to achieve success in it. Whether your goal is athletic performance, a body transformation, general weight room knowledge, or simply to stay healthy and active, I can help.

As a former collegiate athlete I know the value of hard work and striving to achieve a goal. Work with me, and together we will make sure you persevere. When it comes to your goals and your health, don’t be “the sucker in the room.” Work hard and come out on top.

Headley, Jacey

What if I told you that getting in shape is fun? Exercise is more than just going to the gym and jumping on a treadmill or picking up random weights. It is a chance to detach from daily activities and focus solely on improving one’s body and mind. So many times people start an exercise program feeling motivated and lose interest quickly because it’s boring! Daily activity should be exciting and leave you feeling energized. My job is to aid you in reaching your personalized goals in an enjoyable way. It is my priority to help guide you in your fitness journey and give you the tools you need to continue down that pathway for the rest of your life.

Exercise has changed my life in the most amazing ways and I believe that everybody deserves to experience the incredible benefits that accompany regular physical activity. My passion for health and fitness came to being three years ago when stress started to overwhelm my life leading to depression and anxiety. Not only did the gym reverse my negative spiral but it has lead me to be a happier, healthier version of myself. This is what I want for you as well. If you are serious about changing your life, I am ready to train with you. Let’s go!

Immel, Kristen

Each new day is a new opportunity to improve yourself. Take it and make the most of it. I have been an athlete my whole life and I have played a wide variety of sports. Based on my experiences I have learned that doing the same variation of exercises is not a positive workout experience. There has been a stigma against working out; “it's just another thing to cross off my list of things to do”. I used to do this, I felt like I had to work out, almost like it was a chore. Once I started changing my workouts I started to looking forward to going to the gym. When I started liking my workouts I started seeing the results I was looking for. This is my personal goal for all my clients; getting them to enjoy working out.

I have worked in the WSU SRC Weight room for 2 years now and this experience motivated me to become a personal trainer. While I would walk around the Weight room patrons would come up to me and ask what exercise they should do to work a certain part of their body. After each time someone would ask me for help I started thinking more about becoming a personal trainer. I finally felt I had enough knowledge to become a personal trainer. I was nervous for the exam because I am a psychology major do not have the anatomy and physiology background. I am now certified in CPR, AED, first aid, and personal training. My goals are to help my clients with setting goals, teaching them how to work out on their own, and to enjoy going to the gym to work out!

Iverson, Katie

I didn’t grow up in a household that prided physical activity or healthy eating. In high school I made the choice to learn how to become healthy, so I joined the soccer and track teams. However, once I graduated high school I had no idea how to exercise without the help of a coach. This led to decline in my health and energy levels. Before transferring to WSU I was determined to learn how to program exercise for myself and adopt nutritious eating habits. Through employment at UREC I discovered the sport science major. Learning more about this field of study ignited my passion for using exercise as medicine and motivated me to change majors from mechanical engineering. The background I have in engineering helps me to have a strong grasp on how the body should move to be efficient and to preserve joint and muscle health while making strength gains. Motivating my family and myself to adopt healthy eating and exercise habits fueled my decision to become a personal trainer.

Exercise is for all people, no matter what your current health status is. As a trainer  I love to help people discover how much they are capable of and how they can increase their energy levels by adopting a consistent exercise program. I know how it feels to feel out of place in the weight room and not being sure how to start making healthy lifestyle choices, so I can relate to you through personal experience. Whether you are new to exercise, looking to add something different to your current program, or have a medical diagnosis, I can help you reach your goals and hit ones you never thought were possible. Let me help you build your active lifestyle upon a strong foundation that will allow you to remain active throughout the rest of your life and greatly reduce your risk of disease and injury.

Marion, Shawn

Fitness has always been an integral part of my life. From early youth I developed an intimacy with training for both recreational and competitive purposes. I played on several premier level club soccer teams as well as club basketball and baseball teams. Although I no longer compete in any sport I continue to exercise regularly not only to reap the benefits of an active lifestyle but also to improve my capacity for recreational sports, mountain biking, mountain climbing, and backpacking.

Exercise and nutrition are essential for a healthy and happy lifestyle. In order to overcome personal barriers I am confident that my assistance will prove effective so that you can reach your personal goals. Real progress is rarely easy, but through hard work and perseverance development is inevitable.

Peltier, Myles

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it” is a position I take when looking at life and where we are placed within it. We have choices as human beings and can choose to react to like in many different ways. We can do something about events in our lives or we can sit back and let life take us on a ride. To get something out of these events your environment and opportunities must align with your goals so that you can create your best self. Working together we can manufacture goals and checkpoints to become the person you want to be.

Personally, being able to have the freedom to make the choices be and do what I want to have let me flourish into the person I am today, and realize that I still have so far to go to develop into who I want to be. Being clear about what you want is the first step in getting there. If you have a specific, clear, attainable goals, these are the basic guidelines for being successful in almost anything you do. I want to be able to help facilitate these goals by being a catalyst in your exercising objectives. Things that it takes to get where you want are persistence, readiness to try new things, and guidance to make dreams become reality.

Exercise and nutrition are integral parts of life for endurance athletes as well as the average person. Regular activity combined with a healthy diet not only improves the way you feel, but also the way you perform physical and mental tasks throughout the day.

Throughout high school I was a year-round athlete competing in baseball and wrestling throughout Western Washington. Being involved in two vastly different sports I had to learn to find ways to improve strength and speed for wrestling, while also improving balance, stability, and control for baseball. I have attended various clinics for baseball skill development including a course on increasing strength and flexibility to increase a pitcher of any size’s throwing velocity.

Stolte, Grtechen

Exercise is the best medicine on the market – and guess what? It’s free to move! Our bodies were designed to be in motion in order to promote longevity and improve quality of life. Whether you’re brand new to working out, in need of some guidance, or just trying to prioritize exercise, let’s work together to find an exercise program that’s right for you! I build my programs off the fundamental principles of exercise physiology in order to achieve optimal results.

Growing up, I was a multi-sport athlete. I spent most of my youth training as a soccer player, and ended up playing one year at the club level in college. After finishing my competitive athlete career, I struggled with finding new ways to continue to be physically active without having practice multiple times a week. Facing this challenge has led me to rediscover my passion for exercise and taught me how to present myself with new fitness goals to pursue – and I am confident that I can provide you with the skills necessary to achieve your goals!

As a Kinesiology student, I have become involved with research on multiple platforms. I serve as the project coordinator for a study that investigates how functional resistance training can potentially alleviate the uncomfortable physical symptoms of late second and early third trimester of pregnancy. I make it a priority to stay up to date on the newest findings in the health and wellness realm so that I am providing my clients with the best tools and information to succeed!

Zieger, Abi

Is the gym a maze to you? Shedding that freshman fifteen? Need someone to help push you past your current plateau? Training isn’t always intuitive. I can help!

Want to feel healthier? Look better? Get stronger? All three happen when you work out. There’s a big hurdle to get over though. That’s where I come in. But once you get on track, you won’t need me to teach you anymore. You’ll get it.

I know what it’s like to struggle with physical limitations. I’ve got an autoimmune disease and scoliosis. My regular training regimen has changed not only how I feel about my limitations, it’s also improved my health: physically and mentally. I’m a Taekwondo black belt, have experience in Hapkido, run, and have lifted for years – despite chronic pain. I’ve learned the key to happiness is balance. That’s the foundation of my exercise philosophy. Looking forward to training you!
