12 Week Fit Course:

Are you interested in becoming a UREC Group Fitness Instructor? Our Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) course can be your first step to teaching group classes and inspiring active, healthy living.

The 12-Week FIT Course

FIT is a combination of lecture and practical application that covers the basics of group exercise instruction. We designed it for those with no prior experience in group fitness. Topics include:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Exercise Selection
  • Cueing and Choreography
  • Injury Prevention...and much more!

Our Summer FIT course has been underway since May 13, 2019, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 PM at the SRC. Our Fall FIT course will begin on August 26, 2019, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 PM at the SRC. Registration is now open.

FIT Express

If you have a current national certification and prior instruction experience, check out our FIT Express course. A national certification includes a general (Group Fitness from ACE, AFAA, etc.) and/or format-specific certifications (Les Mills, Zumba, XPole, etc.).

Our next FIT Express will run July 16 and 17 at the Chinook.

UREC Fitness Instructor Training (FIT)

Learn the basics of group fitness instruction with UREC's Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) program. Join us Mondays for theoretical content in the classroom and Wednesdays for hands-on practice in the studio. This training is required to work for UREC and prepares instructors for taking the ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification exam. After successfully completing the training and the subsequent shadowing process, participants can audition to lead group fitness classes for UREC. Registration fee includes the manual, textbook rental, and enrollment into fitness classes for shadowing. Please note that completion of this course does not guarantee employment.
