Ready to sign up for CrossFit but are worried that you don't know the movements or aren't in shape yet? CrossFit Jump Start is just for you. Jump start is 5 days long, intended to immerse you in the world of CrossFit, teach you the movements, and give you the foundation for success in our regular classes. To participate in CrossFit, you will need a Chinook membership. At the end of the Jump Start you should be ready to jump in to the regular CrossFit Classes by purchasing a CrossFit Pass and join the rest of the WSU CrossFit Community! Upon graduation on that Friday of class, if you have attended at least 4 days that week, you will receive your CrossFit shirt, and will be ready to roll your Jump Start experience right in to a CrossFit Pass! This section will be Monday - Friday, August 19-August 23 4:15-5:15 pm in Chinook B40. If you attend 4 out of the 5 classes, you will receive a WSU CrossFit T-shirt. This class is normally $20, but free this week as part of our All Access week at UREC.

Slackline Clinic

Come check out the slackline course in the Chinook front lawn! This clinic will be instructional and have open time for you to practice the skills you learn and already know. We will show you how to set up a slackline on the course as well as provide some tips and tricks for getting started. Slacklines will be available for use or you can bring your own. Program rating is level 1. No experience necessary! Cancellation Policy: In order to minimize our environmental impact, maintain facilitator-to-participant ratios, meet permit criteria, and transportation logistics, ORC trips are often programmed for small groups (typically up to 6 participants with 2 facilitators). Late cancellations can seriously impact our ability to accommodate others and recover costs. If you need to cancel, please contact orc@wsu.edu. Participants may not be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs during an ORC activity. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted in WSU vehicles/vessels or at campsites (or other accommodations) at any time. Depending on the severity of infraction of rules and policies, a range of disciplinary actions may take place from a verbal warning to removal from activity, contacting local authorities, and the office of student conduct.

Intro to Olympic Weightlifting

Intro to Olympic Lifting is and 7 week course that meets twice a week. You will learn the fundamentals of the Clean, the Jerk, and the Snatch. Along the way, you will also be instructed on how to perform auxiliary lifts to compliment the Olympic lifts. A foundation of squatting, pressing & lifting is also included in this strength & conditioning program. This course is taught by a USA Weightlifting certified coach. Intro to Powerlifting: Tier 1

Introduction to Powerlifting: Tier 1 is a small, group-based 7 week training course that is focused on strength adaptations though a strategically designed program created by one of our nationally certified personal trainers. The course is based on the three main compound lifts: the bench, the squat, and the deadlift. Each individual in the group will work at their own ability to achieve strength goals in each lift in a safe, strategic manner based on their own percentages. Early in the program participants will be tested for their maximum strength output in each lift, and once again at the completion of the 7 weeks.
 
 

Intro to Strongman Training: Tier 1

Intro to Strongman is a 7-week course that meets once a week and don’t let the name fool you, Strongman is open to all genders of all fitness levels. The course will introduce you to functional strength lifts associated with Strongman and Strongwoman competitions around the world. You will learn the fundamentals of Deadlift, Farmer’s Carry, Log Press, Yoke Carry, Atlas Stones, and Circus Dumbbell Press. While the class meets only once a week, it is intended to give you the knowledge necessary to train for these lifts on your own, in addition to class time.
 
 

Power Lifting: Tier 2

The Tier 2 Power Lifting course is a continuation of the Tier 1 course and is a small, group-based 7 week long training. The foundation of the tier 2 class will be on strength adaptations though a strategically designed linear, or undulating program created by one of our nationally certified personal trainers. The focus of the program will be geared toward using intermediate and advanced techniques to enhance the three main compound lifts: the bench, the squat, and the dead lift. Each individual in the group will work at their own ability to achieve strength goals in each lift in a safe and strategic manner based on their own percentages. Early in the program, participants will be tested for their maximum strength output in each lift, and once again at the completion of the 7 weeks.
 
 

SPARQ Training

Speed. Power. Agility. Reaction. Quickness (SPARQ). These are the skills one needs when playing competitive field and court sports that involve multi-directional speed. This 7 week training course developed by an NSPA Certified Speed and Agility coach will focus on the development of each of the 5 aforementioned factors in order to increase your athletic potential. Come prepared to increase your linear, lateral, retreating, and Change of Direction (COD) Speed. The course will consist of working with ladders, hurdles, resistance bands, reaction balls, parachutes, sleds, ones own body, and partners; along with many other tools to increase ones overall athletic ability. If your goal is to increase your athletic capability this course is meant for you!

Do you dream of pulling a semi-truck or lifting an atlas stone? Look no further! The Tier 2 Strongman Class is an open-rec formatted class for those wanting to practice and train advanced strongman/strongwoman lifts under the supervision of an American Strongman Corporation certified trainer. Tactical Operations Fitness Training (TOFT)

TOFT is a strength and conditioning program designed to teach fitness fundamentals that have been used by military, law enforcement, firefighters and first responders! This fitness class will focus on high intensity body weight cardio, calisthenics, endurance training and body conditioning. The course will emphasize kettlebells, climbing and battle ropes, gymnastics, mobility drills, stair runs, buddy carries, speed drills, and sled pushes. All designed to develop teamwork and camaraderie within the group. Each TOFT course will be conducted by a certified Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
